In today's e-mail, Wisconsin's most progressive legislator sent to his supporters, he got right to the point-- a possible campaign for Milwaukee County Executive, a job that has often lead to the governorship. He and I have been talking about this for a while and this morning he told me about why he's considering the jump.

Democratic primary voters, if you love your country, do NOT do it to us againYou know, it doesn't really matter-- in terms of electability-- that Status Quo Joe is popular in South Carolina or Mississippi or any other red hell-hole where the electorate is so conservative that Democrats have ZERO chance in 2020.

Who remembers MTV's The Real World, one of the first "reality" shows? It started running in 1992 and, after 33 seasons, finally died in 2017. Sean Duffy, pretending to be a lumberjack, was on Season 6, in the Boston season. He played role of the season's Republican dipshit, often arguing with a liberal black woman, Kameelah Phillips, who he called a bitch in episode 4 and a racist who he compared to Hitler in episode 21. After the show was filmed Duffy met another conservative, Rachel Campos and married her. He went to law school and now they're about to have their 9th child.

Lets get the bad part out of the way first. The Supreme Court— in a totally predictable partisan 5-4 decision— told the states to gerrymander all they like without worrying about the Supreme Court doing anything about it.

Does someone in the White House really think sending Trump to do more of his hate rallies in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio will reverse his Rust Belt slide? Won't his unique, divisive and super-polarizing presence further accelerate the slide?

2020 will be a referendum on Trump, just as 2018 was. We could wind up with the most transformative president since FDR or we could wind up with just another in a long line of utterly mediocre presidents.
