White Supremacy

(FAIR) As FAIR has noted before (4/1/15, 3/8/16), how a story is framed is as important — if not more so — than the content of an article.

Much has been said about the need to protect U.S. borders from dangerous entrants, specifically terrorists. From a proposed hyper-militarized border wall to the contested executive order banning travellers from seven Muslim-majority nations, the burgeoning security state of the Trump administration is using violence and fear-mongering to manipulate public perception.
However, one issue remains conspicuously absent in the national dialogue on security. That issue is the threat of extremist militias and white supremacists.

White supremacy swept to power the day Donald Trump was elected president of the United States. His most ardent supporters championed him across the world. For them, Trump signaled the resurgence of white male dominance and they weren’t ashamed to celebrate it.

This University of Connecticut Professor claims that it was white supremacy that propelled Donald Trump’s White House win.
We have now heard (as excuses for Hillary Clinton’s loss)…”fake news”, James Comey, Russian hackers, Putin puppets, pepe the frog, the electoral college system, and now white supremacy.
“Tucker Carlson Tonight” hosts University Of Connecticut Professor Matthew Hughey who claims President Donald Trump won the presidency because of American white supremacy.

A video leaked Monday from a self-proclaimed “alt-right” conference that took place over the weekend in Washington, D.C., shows hundreds gathering to celebrate Donald Trump’s victory and raising their arms in the traditional Nazi salute and saying “Heil victory!” Leaders of the alt-right movement have been emboldened since Trump’s election, particularly since he named Steve Bannon to become his chief strategist after first being his campaign manager. Bannon is the former head of the right-wing news outlet Breitbart Media.

We live in dark times. For some, the accident of birth provides insulation and safety. A womb-like existence defined by ephemeral exposures, if at all, to the presence of an outside. Simultaneously, an overwhelming majority have the exact opposite experience. Unambiguously marked and categorized in a world not of their making, life itself, seen through the former lens, appears to be a transient game of reactions. The goal of the game is simple — survival. In continuation with this Manichean portrait of the world, my thought will work through two dominant registers.
