In other words, Putin’s basic view is a repudiation — a total rejection — of the very concept of empire: it’s a rejection of the right of foreigners to control any country, anywhere, anytime. Residence is determinative. According to Putin, the only justification that a country can ever have for invading another country is if and when that invasion is in direct and immediate response to that other country’s having invaded their land — purely defensive. Other than this, no invasion of any land by foreigners is acceptable.

Donald Trump continued his round of criticism for the aging North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as he prepared for an upcoming trip to Europe that will culminate in a July 16th summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
As NATO gathered in Brussels, Belgium for a two-day summit, NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed that although some differences exist between NATO and Russia, it must not lead to Russia’s isolation, as some in the alliance have called for.
Stoltenberg went on to say:
This reflects the near-universal but erroneous view that this current, second Cold War against Russia is not ideological, as opposed to the first Cold War that pitted atheistic Soviet communism against America’s “in God we trust” capitalism.
Greenwald is now being blasted by the liberal establishment in the US for being an agent of Trump and Russia – because he went to Russia and doesn’t buy Hillary Clinton’s claim that the Russians successfully interfered in the 2016 US presidential election.
In his recent appearance at a panel on “fake news” in Moscow, Greenwald described the notion that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election came about as a desperate way for media elites to explain why their preferred candidate, Hillary Clinton, did not win.
