How Do You Know When A Candidate Is From The Republican Wing Of The Democratic Party? Meet Shannon Hutcheson Of Texas

Last cycle Mike Siegel held Trump enabler Michael McCaul to just 51.1%, McCaul's worst showing in his political career. McCaul, one of the two or three richest members of Congress-- his in-laws are robber barons-- spent  $1,754,122 on the race, swamping Mike's $477,926. The DCCC declined to get involved, telling institutional donors to skip the race because it was too red a district and because Mike is a progressive.

It's Just A Matter Of Time Before TX-12 Flips Blue, But Right Wing Extremist Chris Putnam Could Hasten That

Texas is very much up for grabs this cycle. There are at least half a dozen Republican-held seats that are flippable. TX-12, though, isn't on anyone's radar, primarily because incumbent Republican Kay Granger, first elected in 1996, is so well-liked by her constituents. She usually wins reelection by between 65 and 70-something percent.

Is There A Best Primary Candidate In Texas-31 This Cycle?

John Carter (R-TX) is very right-wing-- but his district no longer isTX-31 has a misleading PVI that hasn't kept up with reality. R+10 doesn't give you a good idea of where this district north of Austin is anymore. Most of the voters live in Williamson County, which basically went blue last year. Williamson Co. was still Trump country in 2016. He won the county 104,029 (51.9%) to 84,252 (42.0%).

Who'll be the next Texas Republican to raise the white flag and skedaddle?Last cycle, House Democrats elected Ted Lieu to run the DCCC operations on the West Coast. Ted's success was beyond anyone's dreams. He helped-- really helped-- 7 Democrats win Republican seats in California and one in Washington.

Fighting for a Green New Deal-- in the Heart of Texas

-by Mike SiegelMy friend Harvey Hayek is a vintage Texan. A third generation pecan farmer in Fayette County, he owns a gun club, hundreds of prime agricultural acres on the Texas Colorado River, and a bottomless store of homespun stories. Unfortunately, the most compelling of these relates to a coal plant that opened next door, forty years ago, and destroyed Harvey’s livelihood-- and almost his life.Harvey’s farm is a stone’s throw from the Fayette Coal Plant, a publicly-owned power plant built in the late 1970s.

The South Was Once Solidly Blue-- And Significant Chunks Of It Are Headed In That Direction Again... And Fast

There are 10 congressional seats or parts of congressional seats in the Dallas-Ft Worth Metro, 5 in the San Antonio Metro, 6 in the Austin Metro and 9 in the Houston Metro, although some of these districts are shared between Metro areas. The Atlanta Metro has 6 congressional districts. Phoenix has 7 districts. And Orlando has 6. These are pretty much the fastest-growing metros in the country.

Is The Climate Crisis Important Enough To You So That It Will Help Determine Who You Vote For In 2020?

Mike Siegel, the progressive candidate running for the Austin-to-Houston area corridor seat (TX-10) shakily occupied by Trump enabler Michael McCaul, put the above video together as part of his campaign to bring Texans along on the Green New Deal. It's worth listening and watching. About a month ago, Mike did a guest post here about the Climate Crisis town-hall he organized for September 21 and how environmental, labor and youth groups can work together to pass this existential program.
