The Southern Poverty Law Center has a history of listing Christian churches as “hate groups” and repeatedly has placed the “Singing Nuns” on its hate-group map. The SPLC says “Radical traditionalist” Catholics, may be the largest single group of serious antisemites in America.

Writer, Bob Moser, who was employed by the SPLC, published an article in the New Yorker exposing the SPLC as a fundraising scam. Moser says the SPLC's business model centers around keeping its donors in constant fear using gimmicks such as "hate maps" and "hate lists."

Critics are concerned that the collection of data could be weaponized to shut down conservatives and other groups who oppose abortion, gay marriage and immigration. Nessel said she would focus her surveillance on 31 Michigan organizations that appear on the Southern Poverty Legal Center's (SPLC) list of hate groups.

The SPLC is widely known as an anti-Christian, anti-conservative, and anti-free-speech hate group and is embroiled in at least three lawsuits. Many of the Internet’s largest social-networking sites and search engines rely on the SPLC as the authority of what is considered “hate speech” in America.

School boards vote on which books are used in classrooms, and many use radical texts. The magazine falsely claims that hate, bigotry, white supremacy, homophobia, racism and lynching are rampant in America, in order to push the leftist agenda.

PayPal CEO Dan Schulman admitted that his company works with the radical Southern Poverty Law Center when blacklisting conservatives. PayPal has blacklisted WikiLeaks, Infowars, Gavin McInnes, Tommy Robinson, Laura Loomer, Roosh V, free speech social network Gab and Youtube competitor Bitchute.

Talk Show host, Gavin McInnes, is suing the SPLC for designated his former organization, the Proud Boys, as a violent hate group. McInnes says that SPLC lies about its political opponents to “destroy” them and to attract donations from the left. The SPLC has received hundreds of millions of dollars for this purpose.
