The audience at the fourth Independent Power Producers (IPP) and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Conference at the annual Africa Energy Indaba conference in Johannesburg heard this week that the BRICS countries were important in Africa’s power supply equation.

South Africa High Court blocks Zuma’s ICC withdrawal

South Africa’s High Court on Wednesday cited procedural irregularities when it blocked the government’s move to withdraw from the International Criminal Court.
South African Justice Minister Michael Masutha in November submitted a bill to the parliament to withdraw from the Rome Statute, the official agreement which created the International Criminal Court (ICC) in 1998.
Parliament has not yet voted on the bill.

China, South Africa to boost BRICS cooperation

South Africa has officially recognized Adama Barrow as the new president of Gambia following his swearing in at the Gambian embassy in Dakar, Senegal.
The UN Security Council unanimously passed a resolution supporting Barrow as the legitimate Gambian president and condemned Jammeh for refusing to step down.
