The local ABC news investigative team learned the group's leader, who goes by the screen name 'Marb', is a 25-year-old college student who was arrested for felony assault on a police officer last year at a riot in Oakland. The district attorney declined to file charges.

All the jurors who ultimately ruled on the case were facing similar concerns of backlash, especially since leftist media had published their race, approximate ages, and their jobs. Judge Peter Cahill threatened twice to declare a mistrial but failed to follow through, perhaps due to fear also.
