Senators Demand Details On Trump Admin’s Aid To Saudi Secret Nuclear Weapons Program

The Trump administration has been sharing sensitive nuclear technology and energy information with Saudi Arabia — an issue that’s gained increased scrutiny since the Oct. 2 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi by a Saudi hit team at the consulate in Istanbul.
American lawmakers now want to get to bottom of it, and a group of senators has notified Energy Secretary Rick Perry to demand answers over how and why he allowed multiple U.S. firms to provide Riyadh with potential nuclear secrets and information sharing typically only available to Washington’s closest western allies.

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump’s energy secretary, Rick Perry, has secretly approved the sale of nuclear power technology and assistance to Saudi Arabia, Reuters revealed this week. Saudi Arabia is reportedly attempting to construct at least two nuclear power plants as part of its effort to diversify its energy sector and its economy as a whole. As part of this plan it has accepted bids from Russia, South Korea and the U.S.

US Energy Chief to Meet Russian, Saudi Counterparts Ahead of Iran Sanctions

US Energy Secretary Rick Perry will meet counterparts from Saudi Arabia and Russia starting on Monday, sources familiar with the matter said, as the Trump administration encourages oil-producing countries to keep output up two months before it is due to renew sanctions on Iran’s crude exports.
Perry will meet Khalid al-Falih, Saudi Arabia’s energy minister, and other officials from the kingdom, the world’s largest oil exporter, in Washington on Monday morning, a US government source said.
