Mold May be Lurking in Your Child’s Sippy Cup

Most parents try so hard these days to make sure their kids aren’t slurping sugary drinks full of artificial colors and flavors, all while having no idea that the sippy cups their children may be less-than-safe.
Social media has been flooded recently with posts by angry parents who found mold in Tommee Tippee sippy cups. Black mold has found a suitable environment to grow in: in the inside of the cups’ white spout on the underside of the lid. The mold appears to build up even when parents painstakingly clean them out.

California recently became the first state to declare that the presence of mold is an enforceable substandard housing condition. The law, which went into effect January 1, declares that the visible presence of mold is a misdemeanor.

Organic Applesauce Pouches Voluntarily Recalled over “Potential Adulteration”

Some packages of a popular brand of organic applesauce have been recalled due to concerns over potential product adulteration.
Materne North America Corp. (MNA) voluntarily pulled its GoGo SqueeZ applesauce pouches after food product residue was found in product pumps during an inspection of its factories by the Michigan State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). No illnesses have been reported.

University of Pittsburgh Medical Centers Hid Mold Infections that Killed 3 People

A mold infection has claimed the lives of 3 transplant patients at 2 University of Pittsburgh medical centers, and a fourth patient is deathly ill. The first 2 deaths occurred at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian, and the third occurred at UPMC Montefiore, which is next-door to UPMC Presbyterian. [1]
