Israel and the Golan Heights: A Wider Geopolitical Game

In the recent autumn session of the United Nations General Assembly a number of resolutions involving the Syrian Golan Heights occupied by Israel came up for debate and voting. A familiar pattern emerged. The first of the votes to be noted was UNGA Resolution A/C.4/73/L.20. The wording of this resolution was that the general Assembly “reaffirmed that Israel’s settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories including East Jerusalem are illegal and an obstacle to peace and social development”.

Yemen’s Houthis Refute Pompeo’s Accusations of Hodeida Truce Violations

HODEIDA, YEMEN — Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, the head of Yemen’s Supreme Revolutionary Committee, said that the Houthis’ withdrawal from Hodeida refuted recent allegation made by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, tweeting, “Pompeo’s accusations are refuted by the steps of redeployment at the port of Hodeida and the submission of positive proposals.”

Iranian FM Slams Bolton, Pompeo’s “Psychotic,” “Pure Obsession” With Iran

WASHINGTON — Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif slammed U.S. aggression against his country on Tuesday, as top U.S. officials are in the Middle East coordinating anti-Iran efforts with regional players like Israel and trying to shore up support from Arab nations.
Zarif’s counterpart, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, was in Jordan on Tuesday and vowed to “redouble” U.S. efforts to counter Iran’s “malign influence” in the Middle East.
