Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act

One of the most disturbing aspects of the past two years of Donald Trump foreign policy has been the assumption that decisions made by the United States are binding on the rest of the world. Apart from time of war, no other nation has ever sought to prevent other nations from trading with each other. And the United States has also uniquely sought to penalize other countries for alleged crimes that did not occur in the US and that did not involve American citizens, while also insisting that all nations must comply with whatever penalties are meted out by Washington.

A major story broke that a US federal judge in New York is ordering Iran to pay billions in damages to the families of 9-11 victims, even though the official US report declared Iran did not play a direct role in the attacks.

NEW YORK – Iran has been ordered to pay a total of $6 billion to families of September 11 victims as part of a U.S. District Court ruling handed down on Tuesday. The ruling, ordered by U.S. District Judge George Daniels, blames Iran as well as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the country’s central bank for the deaths of the more than 1,000 victims of the terror attack whose families were part of the lawsuit.

New evidence submitted in a lawsuit against the Saudi Arabian government shows that its embassy in Washington may have funded a 9/11 “dry run” by two Saudis, possibly reinforcing the claim that employees and agents of the kingdom directed and aided the 9/11 hijackers, the New York Post reported on Saturday.

(ANTIWAR) Last year’s Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), a bill which allowed Americans to sue Saudi Arabia in US court over their involvement in 9/11, has yielded another major lawsuit yesterday, a $4.2 billion suit filed by over two dozen US insurers related to losses sustained because of the 2001 attack.
