The consequences of the Israeli state of mind are, of course, catastrophic – first and foremost for the Palestinians, who suffer death and destruction for their justified resistance to oppression. The Zionists see them as latter-day Nazis but in truth they resemble the resisters in the Warsaw ghetto. And, if that rings true, then who do the Israelis now resemble?

Francis’ rabbi friend, Abraham Skorka was spot on when he noted that it ‘could be understood as a nod to Zionism’. It was much more than a nod. For the gleeful Netanyahu gang, it was an imprimatur on the expansionism of Greater Israel negating Francis’ two-state solution.
As long as their religion, their culture and their behavior are based on the racist supremacist ideology that the Jews, and only the Jews, are God’s chosen people, that they are the only humans on earth, and the rest of the people are animals created by this discriminative God to serve the Jews, they will definitely and unquestionably face a great deal of legitimate resentment and intolerance.
