U.S. President Donald Trump said last week he wants to “decertify” the agreement, which would allow Congress to make changes to the multi-nation accord and potentially pull the country out of the historic deal.
President Donald Trump’s move to decertify the Iranian nuclear Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), entered into a little over two years ago, was applauded by Israel, Saudi Arabia and a couple of Persian Gulf States, but by no one else. Quite the contrary, as the European and Asian co-signatories on the agreement, having failed to dissuade Trump, have clearly indicated that they will continue to abide by it.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Sunday that President Donald Trump’s decertification of the nuclear deal days earlier widened the mistrust “between the global community and the United States.”

In response to the U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to decertify the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, JCPOA, with Tehran, the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, has confirmed that Iran adhered to the nuclear deal.
President Donald Trump has announced that his government will decertify the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, JCPOA, with Iran.
“Since the signing of the nuclear agreement, the regime’s dangerous actions has only escalated,” Trump said during a press conference.
“We cannot and will not make this certification.”
Trump also announced that he will impose sanctions on Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which he accused of supporting supposed “terrorism” across the world, including the Middle East.
Earlier this month, the leader of the Lebanese political party Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, accused the Israeli government of intentionally pushing the Middle East towards war. He further argued that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was working in tandem with his counterpart in the United States, Donald Trump, to start a regional war by undermining the Iran nuclear accord and sowing division in the region.
With President Donald Trump reportedly set to declare that the Iran nuclear deal is “not in the national interest of the United States” as early as Friday, a chorus of lawmakers, policy experts, and advocacy groups are sounding the alarm, warning that any move to undermine the accord would “open up a nuclear Pandora’s box in the Middle East” and place the U.S. on a “path to war with Iran.”
A top US intelligence official warned on Tuesday of “continued efforts” by Hezbollah to build an infrastructure for attacks inside the United States.
“While much of our work on the government since 9/11 has focused on al-Qaeda and more recently ISIS [the Islamic State (IS) group], in the 20 years since Hezbollah’s designation as a terrorist organisation, we have never taken our focus off of Hezbollah and the threat that it represents to the homeland,” said Nicholas Rasmussen, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center.
