A new study linked non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drugs such as ibuprofen and diclofenac with an increase in cardiac arrest. Research data showed painkiller use was linked to a 31% higher risk of cardiac arrest in patients. NSAIDs should be used with caution and for a valid indication.

Cold and flu season is upon us, so the medicines-intake will likely be rolling around. But if you’ve recently purchased liquid ibuprofen from Walmart, CVS, or Family Dollar, you should stop using it immediately and return it for a refund. The over-the-counter pain relievers were recalled December 6 because they may contain more ibuprofen than what is listed on the label.

The recalled fever-reducing and pain-relieving products were packaged and sold as follows:

A leading group of pediatricians said in a statement published September 19 that codeine is not safe for children and should not be used to relieve pain or coughs. [1]
The guidance nearly mirrors a January 2016 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning that codeine should not be given to children and most teens.

Drug giant Reckitt Benckiser has been ordered by the Australian Federal Court to pull its so-called “targeted” ibuprofen products off the shelves after the company admitted that these were identical to the standard tablets. Marketed under the name Nurofen, all products contained 200mg of ibuprofen, whether they were labelled as “standard,” “migraine,” “period pain,” or “back pain.”
