Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James C. Chalfant ruled against the LA County Health Department in a legal challenge from the California Restaurant Association after the county shut down outdoor and indoor in-person restaurant dining indefinitely.

Lisa Derderian, a spokesperson for the city of Pasadena, said the city has its own health department, which makes it possible for it to issue different health orders than those issues by the county.

House Bill 2502 that would give the director of the State Department of Health the power to declare a health emergency if authorized by the governor. The governor already has the power to declare a health emergency, and critics of this bill say that it gives too much power to a state official who is not elected.
