Hate Crimes

A new bill is set to pass into law that would pay up to $2000 to people who call a government hotline to report hate crimes and "bias incidents". A "bias incident" is speech that is an "expression of animus" where criminal investigation and prosecution are deemed "impossible or inappropriate".

While police have stopped arresting people for certain crimes, Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best told citizens that efforts to deal with the pandemic included vigilance against "hate crimes". Don't call the police for protection against prowling or theft, but be sure call if you see "hate".

Despite police admitting that such incidents are not crimes, the incidents are still logged on a system and can show up during a background check when applying for work, and could prevent the accused from getting jobs; nearly 120,000 'hate incidents' have been recorded.

Democrats in the Connecticut Senate want a new state police department that will specialize in combating “far-right” extremists, which is how they categorized conservatives.

Under his proposal, the FBI would conduct assessments of white supremacist threats and improve reporting of hate crimes. The proposal builds upon Booker's sweeping anti-gun plan that would establish a national licensing program for gun ownership.
