Dangerous Turkish military escalation in Libya (Video)
The Duran’s Alex Christoforou and Editor-in-Chief Alexander Mercouris discuss Turkish President Erdogan’s announcement to provide military backing for Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), saying in a speech in Ankara that he will present the Turkish parliament with the motion so that it can vote on the deployment legislation in January.
“We will present the motion to send troops [to Libya] as soon as parliament resumes” on January 7. “God willing, we will pass it in parliament on January 8-9 and thus respond to an invitation” from the Tripoli-based GNA,” Erdogan said.

This title is not intended to trivialize the very serious nature of the deadly conflict in Libya; the situation is an ever-escalating humanitarian disaster, and has been since US State and NATO destroyed the country in 2011.

Erdogan is laying claim to a large swath of the Mediterranean sea, from Turkey’s south to Libya’s western port, covering Greek and Cypriot maritime territory, and irking France, Israel and Egypt in the process.

Ghassan Salame, the UN’s point man for Libya began his analysis and brief to the Security Council last week by emphasising that the armed conflict in Libya “shows no signs of abating”. He added “The war around Tripoli has already left nearly 1100 dead, including 106 civilians. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled their homes in the capital and neighbouring districts as a result of the fighting, tens of thousands crossing the border to Tunisia seeking safety for their families.”

On Monday 1st July, Libyan National Army (LNA) Commander Mohamed Manfour announced the beginning of a new aerial bombardment campaign after “traditional means” to “liberate Tripoli” had been exhausted.
