Porkins Poliy Radio episode 112 Stephen Paddock, Vegas Shooting, and Lack of Logical Thinking

On this solo show I discuss the Vegas Shooting and Stephen Paddock. I start off by talking about the Vegas Police and their track record as being unprofessional and trigger happy. The allegations that the police didn’t help evacuate the concert, and that the cover up my stem from their failures are explored. I then begin laying out the facts as we know them about the shooting, Paddock and Marilou Danley. I look into the ever changing narrative, including the latest development regarding hotel security guard Jesus Campos. Then I explore Stephen Paddock and try to make sense of who he was.

It's Time to Legalize Sports Betting

The Oakland Raiders’ impending move to Las Vegas has reignited debate about the legality of betting on sports. It is ridiculous that most states ban betting schemes. Someone who buys stock in General Motors is “betting” that the company will sell lots of cars, just as someone who puts money on the super bowl is betting that their team will win the game.

SPORTS AND POLITICS

International sporting events have a clear political nature: nation-states enter the stadium under their national anthem, represent their countries, and, in the case of victory, their rank increases. In other words, sports is an instrument of “soft power” if we use Joseph Nye’s term. Moreover, the country hosting a sporting event can improve its image, as was the case with the Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
