The UK government is likely to have to eat a lot of crow this year. Despite all the fiery rhetoric about Russian “aggression” and secret spies deployed by Vladimir Putin all around the world, and especially in England, some British citizens came to Russia anyway. The FIFA World Cup is being played here, after all, and football is very important for these people.
As the result of this, the people from one of the most stalwart Western powers are getting a completely different and first-hand, view of Russia.

TASS News agency reported Thursday that Red Square has gained a new attraction. The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Football Park opened in Moscow’s Red Square, with a ceremony attended by dignitaries from both the national government and FIFA itself.
TASS reports:

Russia has been invaded… by FIFA. And the city is welcoming the invaders with open arms.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup began over the weekend, with soccer (football) matches at the three main Moscow sports stadiums.
The FIFA games have been a tremendous boon for Moscow and will be for many cities across the Russian Federation as the fans sweep across European Russia, following their teams as they play in a total of 64 matches in 12 different venues located in 11 cities.

Moscow has been busily preparing its facilities to host the 2018 World Cup games. Not only has Moscow been part of this but so have other places around the Russian Federation. However, there is a push on in the Western nations for the officials of six countries (Poland, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Australia and Japan) to boycott the event.
That’s fine. Stay home. Russia doesn’t need you here anyway if you don’t want to be here.
