Land of the Free – Unless You Want to Criticize Israel

The map below shows the spread across the USA of laws against support for the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) Movement. It was compiled by Palestine Legal, an organization dedicated to protecting the civil rights of Americans who speak out for Palestinian freedom.

One state with anti-BDS legislation on its books is Texas. Says The Intercept:

ACLU Sues over Arizona Law Banning Boycotts Against Israel

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit Thursday for an attorney challenging an Arizona law prohibiting state contractors from supporting boycotts against Israel, saying it violates his right to free expression.
The lawsuit was brought on behalf of Sedona attorney Mikkel Jordahl, who provides legal advice to Coconino County inmates. It is asking the court to declare the law, which mandates contractors sign a statement promising not to boycott Israel, unconstitutional.

Japan’s Largest Department Store Withdraws Products From Israeli Settlements

Earlier this month, the store was scheduled to host an event featuring Israeli wines, including wines made in illegal Israeli settlements built on stolen land. But after Japanese civil society raised concerns, Mitsukoshi shortened the event and removed all wines which Japanese BDS activists indicated were made in Israeli settlements, The Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC)reported.
A spokesperson for Palestine Forum — Japan, a network of BDS activists, said:

Fordham University Sued For Playing Politics With Student Groups

Four Fordham undergraduates filed a lawsuit accusing the university of viewpoint discrimination over its decision to reject their application to form a local chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine.
