Sexual abuse settlements that have already been agreed to have pushed the organization to the brink of bankruptcy. New York state has passed a law changing the statute of limitations so that victims of long-ago sexual abuse can sue for damages.

The Boy Scout of America have recently changed their policies to allow gay leaders into the organization and to allow girls to join, which is now hurting the organization financially. Declaring bankruptcy could stop litigation and allow negotiation.

According to Reuters, The Girl Scouts of America organization has now filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America, after the Boy Scouts decided to drop “Boy” and start admitting girls under its new ‘gender inclusive’ policy.
