2018 congressional races

I'm color-blind. I literally can't even tell red from green. Jacquie has been working with Jamie, Blue America's web designer, on a new lay-out. They cc me on the endless discussions of endless minutiae, even shades of colors that I can't see. It's been going on for weeks and weeks. The other day I mistakenly thought they had the final design done and replied that "it looks great," which it did.

Last Tuesday one of the most promising candidates running for governor, Abdul El-Sayed of Michigan, lost his race. I tweeted that he ran a great campaign but that it was now time to get behind Gretchen Whitmer and help her defeat Trump's hand-picked extremist candidate Bill Schuette. One of the first people to "like" my tweet was Abdul.

Trump has been talking about a "Red Wave" when it is clear to everyone who followes electoral politics that what has been building is a Blue Wave or, more accurately, an anti-Red Wave. Is it because he's feeble-minded?

But in the statewide race-- Maria Cantwell's reelection-- about twice as many Democrats voted as Republicans. That filtered down to the three crucial congressional races as well.

The other day, we warned about not getting sucked into the political perspectives of conservatives on MSNBC, like "non-practicing Republican" Nicolle Wallace, "ex"-Republican Steve Schmidt, #NeverTrumper Rick Wilson and right-of-center Democrat Adam Schiff, just because they are anti-Trump. Anti-Trumpism is important... but that isn't what it means to be progressive-- and none of them are. That said...

Let's start with some news: Last week, Fox News' James Rupert Murdoch, a British billionaire, put half a million dollars into one of Nancy Jacobson's shady No Labels SuperPACs that aims to fill Congress with candidates from the Republican Wing of the Democratic Party. Their current goal is a smear campaign against Alan Grayson.

On Tuesday there's a congressional special election in a very gerrymandered deep red district (OH-12) in central Ohio. It shouldn't even be competitive. But it is. The last time the district voted for a Democratic presidential candidate was just over a century ago.
