Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network – December 4, 2107 Israeli occupation forces seized three Palestinian lawyers well-known for their involvement in defending Palestinian human rights and particularly the rights of Palestinian prisoners in armed, overnight, pre-dawn raids. The three lawyers are: Khaled Zabarqa, seized from his home in Lydd in Palestine ’48 and a defense […]
From an economic point of view, art can be an investment. Although the research shows art investing has mixed results. Art also has what economists refer to as “psychic benefits.” It is something to be enjoyed, experienced or flaunted, and this may be the key to the high price paid for Salvator Mundi.
The U.S. government still keeps 41 prisoners at the Guantánamo Bay Detention Camp in Cuba. Incredibly, some of these so-called alien enemy combatants have been imprisoned for up to 15 years without benefit of trial; indeed, without even being charged with a crime. How is this possible in a democracy? What does it say about our country?
A Palestinian child can be being arrested by Israeli security forces [Saeed Qaq/Apaimages] By Professor Kamel Hawwash | MEMO | December 4, 2107 Israel’s mistreatment of Palestinian children is not a new development but rather one example of its many breaches of international law and international humanitarian law. While it has in the past faced […]
I have already written a lot about Cambodia, but each time I return to this ancient and scarred country, I get so outraged by the cynicism that confronts me there, at every corner, that I have to start writing again, re-addressing the same essential issues that I have already been covering for years and decades.
One question always comes back to my mind:

Let’s examine what makes this commercial genius. As Americans we love art that flips class caricatures and plays with the mobility of class status. This is a signature of the national culture, an extension of the idea of freedom. We love to see the high go low and the low go high, and laugh at the irony – and the reality – of it all.
MEMO | December 4, 2017 Israeli media sources revealed that the Israeli Ministerial Committee for Legislation was due to discuss a draft bill yesterday that allows the army to sue anyone who “offends” its soldiers. The bill, which is aimed at organisations including Breaking the Silence which works to expose the occupation’s violations against Palestinian […]

(TFC) — Amid sanctions, a failing economy, international pressure, and low oil prices, the Venezuelan President has announced his nation will create an oil-backed cryptocurrency.
Sanctions spearheaded by the United States have taken their toll. Maduro’s handling of the crisis and his reliance on force has handed his opposition all the ammunition they need to paint him as a dictator with no idea of how to look out for the Venezuelan people.
We have all been there. We’ve been slighted by the person we are speaking with as they reach for their smartphone to check a social media notification. This practice of snubbing is so common that in 2012, the Macquarie Dictionary helped to create the new word “phubbing” (a combination of phone and snubbing) to describe this problematic behavior.
We’re more digitally connected than ever before, and it’s having a chilling impact on our health, wellbeing and relationships. But society is also taking steps to deal with this new and growing problem. How do we save ourselves from internet addiction?

The idea that religions are giving way to a more advanced human level of existence is part of common knowledge. Science and technology are emancipating humankind from mythical and religious discourses under the effect of the belief that only rationality should guide us. Reason has replaced the old God. Nietzsche, more than a century ago, warned that God was dead[Read More...]
It's often difficult for people to get their lives back on track once they become homeless due to all the hurdles that society and the mainstream financial system place in their way. However, with free market options like cryptocurrencies and decentralized freelancing platforms, the homeless may have better luck lifting themselves out of poverty.
One of my friends, who is a political conservative/constitutionalist in the USA, wrote me concerning starvation in South Sudan: Then, maybe they should be taught about birth control, and enforce it. Otherwise they are gonna f*ck us all. So no food for idiots who have been living like this for centuries. And now, we feed them so they can procreate.[Read More...]

(MEE) — The former president of Yemen, Ali Abdullah Saleh, was killed on Monday in a reported RPG and gun attack while trying to flee fierce fighting between his loyalists and his former allies the Houthis in the capital Sanaa.
Rather than asking, “Should we drill?” I submit that we ought to reframe the question and instead ask, “Why is a federal government ban on productive economic activity the status quo?”
Press TV – December 4, 2017 Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on the “policy community” in the United States to push decision makers in Washington and European countries to revise the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran. “I urge you, in the policy community, to help decision makers in the capitals of Europe and […]
(RPI) — Do we need a third major political party? I often joke that I’d be happy if we actually had a second party, as when it comes to the big issues – war, monetary policy, civil liberties – the Republicans and Democrats are more alike than different.
Economic growth is exactly the thing which gives the poorest a share of economic achievement. For if we make the economy itself rich then everyone in that economy will also become, by global standards, rich.
There are reports this morning that Abdullah Saleh is dead. His death looks to have come at the hands of his former allies, who it seems may have had very good reason to distrust his reinstallment into power Surely time will tell us, with certainty, if Saleh is dead or has simply fled. Was commenting at Greencrow’s on this topic and thought I might as well get a post together myself.Bloomberg

Marxism is like Alex in the movie Fatal Attraction. We thought it was dead as an ideology, but it keeps returning, swinging its hammer and sickle.
I know, I know... everyone hates Nancy Pelosi these days... and there are lots of reasons to disparage her (especially as relates to the way she's run the DCCC into the ground since taking it over and appointing one disaster after another to run it for her). But, honestly, she has been quite masterful in her main job as House Minority Leader and it boggles the mind at how she's smoothly managed to hold the entire usually fractious caucus together on the spate of recent tough votes-- like the GOP Tax Scam.

As a result of 'chain migration', 9.3 million people were allowed to become legal US citizens between 2005 - 2016, for the sole reason that they had a relative who already was an immigrant. The total number of foreign nationals legally entering the US over the-year period was more than 13 million people. Chain migration the largest driver of immigration to the US, accounts for more than 70% of it. [...]
The US is no longer a member state pledging to uphold the rights of refugees, assist in resettlement, and provide access to education and jobs. Foreign Policy magazine published the White House explanation: "Our decisions on immigration policies must always be made by Americans and Americans alone. We will decide how best to control our borders and who will be allowed to enter our country. The global approach in the New York Declaration is simply not compatible with U.S. sovereignty." [...]
A new report on the Unite the Right event in Charlottesville reveals that police chief Al Thomas ordered police to stand down, and reportedly said, "Let them fight. It will make it easier to declare an unlawful assembly." The infamous Charlottesville parking garage fight was started by a 'counter-protester'. He was arrested and immediately released on an unsecured bond. In spite of the fact that videos shown on the Internet prove he actually instigated the violence, he received $166,000 from crowd-sourced funding.

General Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about meeting with the Russian Ambassador. However, this was after Trumps election, not before. Therefore, there was nothing illegal or improper about such a meeting. Stone criticized Trump's lawyers for bad legal advice and for cutting off contact with Flynn at a crucial time for his defense.
