By James J. Zogby | LobeLog | June 18, 2018 I find it exceptionally irritating when I hear liberals worry about whether Israel will be able to remain a “Jewish and Democratic State” if it retains control of occupied Palestinian lands. It’s irritating because Israel is not now a democratic state nor has it ever […]
By Whitney Webb | Mint Press News | June 11, 2018 GAZA – A new video released by an Israeli Defense Force (IDF) spokesman has unnerved many in the global Muslim community for its use of sectarian rhetoric and slurs targeting Shia Muslims that are often used by leaders of extremist Wahhabi terror groups. The […]
By Tyler Durden – Zero Hedge – 06/18/2018 A day after a mysterious airstrike close to the Iraq-Syria border reportedly killed over 30 Syrian government soldiers and Iraqi paramilitary forces backed by Iran, a US official has told CNN the attack was carried out by Israel and not by the US coalition. Syrian state media […]
(ZHE) — It’s all about the trade war between the US and China this morning, and more specifically, how will Xi retaliate to Trump. For those who missed the overnight fireworks, late on Monday, President Trump asked the US Trade Representative to identify USD 200BN in Chinese goods for further tariffs of 10% which will be imposed […]
Washington Post employees are revolting over “shocking pay practices” at the newspaper, as they petition Amazon CEO and WaPo owner Jeff Bezos to “share the wealth”…of which today stands at $140 Billion.
Over 400 Washington Post employees have signed a public petition addressed to Jeff Bezos begging him to improve working conditions and poor pay at the iconic newspaper.
The petition follows over a year of unsuccessful negotiations with upper management.
On May 5 2018 Kazakhstan ratified an agreement with the US for the transit of US military cargo and possibly even troops (under the euphemism of ‘advisors’ or ‘engineers’) to Afghanistan via the Caspian Sea route.
The ostensible reason is that the US’s long established supply lines to Afghanistan via Pakistan are now ‘under threat’. However, as is often the case nowadays, the reality is rather more complicated.
teleSUR | June 18, 2018 Venezuela expressed its decision to not participate in the procedure that the government of Guyana introduced before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in relation to the territorial dispute over the Essequibo, its Foreign Ministry said in a statement Monday. “The Venezuelan delegation has informed the president of the court, […]
For the last few weeks I’ve been working a research project on how the Pentagon’s entertainment liaison offices deal with the subjects of military mental health and suicide. Today the fruits of that research were published by Insurge Intelligence, a crowdfunded journalism platform run by Nafeez Ahmed, who also published an exclusive on National Security […](Read more...)
(MEE) — Israel has arrested former energy minister Gonen Segev on suspicion of working as an Iranian agent, the Jewish state’s Shin Bet intelligence service announced on Monday. Segev, 62, was arrested last month after being extradited from Equatorial Guinea “on suspicion of committing offences of assisting the enemy in war and spying against the state of […]
(ANTIWAR.COM) — During last week’s summit between President Trump and Kim Jong-un, the US promised to suspend all joint military exercises with South Korea. This was important because joint exercises between the two have been focused on threatening North Korea. So it was unsurprising when on Monday, the South Korean Defense Ministry confirmed that the two nations have […]
A new report from the Department of Homeland Security reveals that the Obama administration handed out DACA work-permits and Social Security numbers to more than 50,000 illegal aliens, even though they had arrests records. The criminals who were allowed to remain in the US include 2,503 people with arrest records for battery, 2,378 DUI drivers, 6,629 thieves, and 1,173 burglars. [...]
The last attempt to fix some of Florida's severe gerrymandering problems created a new district up north, the fifth, that connects most of Tallahassee with most of Jacksonville and goes as far west into the panhandle as Chattahoochee. The PVI is D+12. Hillary eviscerated Trump here, 61.3% to 35.9%, Trump's worst performance in northern Florida.
The Entrapment of Papodopouplos By Mark F. McCarty | Medium | June 3, 2018 As you will recall, Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos (P) informed the FBI that, in a London conversation with a Maltese professor, Joseph Mifsud, he was told that the Russian government had “dirt” on Hillary. The precise language in P’s indictment […]
https://southfront.org/battle-for-al-hudaydah-can-become-turning-point-… The Saudi-led coalition and its proxies are developing their military operation to capture the western Yemeni port city of al-Hudaydah from the Houthis. This very advance started on June
A California judge ruled that Twitter can be sued for advertising free speech and then banning users with whom they disagree. Twitter has frequently promised not to ban accounts on the basis of viewpoint or political affiliation, but it has frequently violated this promise, especially targeting conservatives. Twitter lost its argument that it has a first amendment right to ban whoever it likes from its platform, for whatever reason, and the case will move forward to set a precedent for social media.
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) claims to combat hate, racism, and bigotry, but it has a history of listing groups that it disagrees with as 'hate' groups. The SPLC agreed to apologize and pay $3.75 million after it accused Maajid Nawaz and his group that counters extremism, Quilliam, of being anti-Muslim. Nawaz has dropped his threatened lawsuit alleging defamation by the SPLC. The SPLC has gained unprecedented power over censorship since it partnered with Google, Youtube, Facebook and Twitter.
Ever wonder why installations of household solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and utility-scale solar power have surged since 2014? The declining cost of solar technology is part of the reason. But a bigger factor may be the profusion of state and federal “incentive” programs, i.e. subsidies.
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen revealed that 10,000 out of 12,000 children who are being cared for by the HHS were sent alone to the US by their parents, and that is when they were separated. Politicians are conflating the numbers together to make it seem as though Trump is responsible for tearing apart thousands of families, while the media stirs up emotions. [...]

I think financial privacy is a good thing since predatory governments are less likely to misbehave if they know taxpayers have safe (and confidential) places to put their money. Now that privacy has been weakened, however, anti-tax competition folks at the OECD are openly chortling that there can be higher taxes on capital.
The bottom line is that tax competition without privacy is not very effective.
Former White House economist Gary Cohn expressed concerns yesterday that Trump’s tariffs would erode the benefits from tax reform. Since the on-again-off-again 25 percent tariffs on imports from China are—as of 3:23pm, Friday, June 15, 2018—“on again,” let me share this back-of-the-envelope analysis that shows why Cohn’s concerns are justified.
National security is easier to finance with a strong economy. Yet protectionism reduces economic vitality. All the more reason why Section 232-instigated trade barriers are so senseless and illogical. And all the more reason why I wish Trump was serious when he proposed zero trade barriers with American allies.
My Instagram feed fills this time of year with photos announcing the last day of school, for both homeschoolers and conventional schoolers alike. These photos are vivid reminders of how different unschooling is from standard schooling or school-at-home. With unschooling, there is no beginning and end, no start and stop. I can't even imagine having a "last day of the school year" photo for my kids. What would it look like? The last day of what?
The policy question here, however, is whether some of us should be allowed to use the power of government against others in order to keep changes from happening that we don’t like. Is it right to use political power, the power to initiate violence, against other people who haven’t used violence against us? In particular, is it right to use political power to prevent a developer from building those apartments in our single-family neighborhood?
By M.K. Bhadrakumar | Asia Times | June 19, 2018 The argument that China is being “marginalized” by Washington while it works bilaterally with Pyongyang on the profound security issues on the Korean Peninsula has been completely discredited with the surprising news that the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is back in China on a […]

Meet Jesuit priest, James Martin author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage and Building a Bridge. He's also an editor of the Jesuit magazine America. You may know him for his appearances on Colbert's show.
What the people of that country will gain is unclear. Their national interests will be eclipsed by the foreign-policy goals of other major players.
A "mysterious" attack on Syrian government forces in southwest Syria on June 18 has left as many as 52 Syrian (and Iraqi) troops dead. The Syrian media blames Washington, which has been warning Syria for several weeks to leave ISIS forces alone in the area. Who did it...and why?
Asian markets are taking a hit as Trump announces that he intends to expand the list of tariffs on Chinese exported goods. Trump continues to slam China over the trade deficit between China and the US and his displeasure with Chinese countermeasures to tariffs that he has imposed on them. Apparently, in Trump’s world, he can tariff other countries, but they can’t respond in kind.
Associated French Press reports:
While the U.S. government’s failure to take care of its citizens may be viewed as a good thing because it lets them turn to solutions in the private sector to solve their problems, the government is still robbing citizens through taxes, and making it look as if it will benefit them in the long run through programs such as Social Security and Medicare.
A task force of Russian vessels was sighted traveling through the Bosphorous Strait on its wat to Syria, armed with cruise missiles. The sighting comes just after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that all warships in the region assisting Syria would be armed with Kalibr cruise missiles.

At the moment, it’s hard to decipher. Does the Unites State have a coherent foreign policy?
As the Trump road show continues to ramble its way through the various global regions, questions are emerging as to where the US is actually heading, and whether it’s going to increase or detract from its standing in the world. Is he remaking the western world or merely isolating the US? CrossTalking with host Peter Lavelle are guests Mark Sleboda, Dmitry Babich and 21WIRE’s Patrick Henningsen. Watch:
UNHINGED: Anti-Trump hysteria is causing many US political pundits to abandon any semblance of sane commentary.
What’s becoming ever clearer is that Democratic Party establishment and its media surrogates are no longer part of ‘the Left’ as it was once traditionally known.

Lewis’s real heritage is clear: It lies in more than a million dead in Iraq since 2003, more than 600,000 killed in Syria and in the continuing specter throughout the region of wars without end.
On Sunday evening an airstrike hit a paramilitary base in Eastern Syria, killing dozens of Iraqi fighters who were in Syria to combat Islamic State combatants. Hashed al-Shaabi fighters are allowed within Syria’s borders by the Assad government as their efforts help to cleanse the war torn Middle Eastern country of of radical terrorists.
A US official denied that the US coalition was not involved in the strike, but asserts that Israel was behind it. Israel, however, has refused to comment.
The prospect of a formal meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has been floating around for some time, but due to suspicions of Russian collusion in the 2016 US presidential election by Trump’s political opponents, that hasn’t been allowed to manifest, as of yet. However, Trump says he wants to meet with Putin, and Putin has said repeatedly that he’s open to such a meeting. Trump has stated that he thinks he could meet with the Russian President this summer, and the Austrian capital of Vienna could potentially be the host.
The social engineers who manufacture the narratives which are dispensed to the mass media and repeated as fact to unsuspecting audiences rely heavily on the tactic of generating sympathy.

The North Korean process is ‘parked’ for now (whilst the lengthy negotiations continue), and Trump is free to pursue heightened attrition against Iran
The current employment statistics in America look pretty good, they say that we’ve basically reach full employment. That’s great, right? But the poverty statistics, and fates of various industries are not so sure about that.

The activities of the Gates Foundation are an example of what has come to be called philanthrocapitalism. Philip L Bereano argues that philanthrocapitalism is an attempt to use market processes to do good – but is problematic as markets are ill-suited to socially constructive goals
