Dan Levitin is better known for his books, particularly This Is Your Brain On Music, and for his scholarly endeavors in the field of neuroscience than for his music. But he has recorded an album, Turnaround, the title track of which he threw together a quick slideshow for, above. He wrote the lyrics with Christopher Harrison, a founding member of SONOS, who produced the album as well. Dan put together a credible and talented band, all of whom contributed their time to work with him on his songs. The album has been recorded and Dan has started a Kickstarter page to cover the costs of mastering, art work, printing and manufacturing of CDs and vinyl albums.See if you can guess who exactly the song "Turnaround" is about:
When the truth gets buried deep Beneath the thousand years asleepTime demands a turnaroundAnd once again the truth is found Where hate is free to rain on allToday a child will hear the callTime demands a turnaround And once again the truth is foundWhen prayers are sins and lies are truthWhen age can masquerade as youthWe find ourselves in dreams profoundAnd shine a light on the undergroundWhen all around you lie and hateWhen those in need are those who waitTime demands a turnaround And once again the truth is found
When prayers are sins and lies are truthWhen age can masquerade as youthWe find ourselves in dreams profoundAnd shine a light on the underground
There are more songs available on the kickstarter page, as well as a list of "what you get" for contributions. For $15, for example, you get a free download of the album. Although there's lots in between, for $4,000, you're a genuine executive producer! Dan's hoping to have it all wrapped up and pressed by spring.
