A married Virginia Port Authority officer was arrested on Feb. 14 after police searched his home and charged the officer with 40 counts of child pornography.
WTKR News reports that Officer John Princeton, 51, of the Virginia Port Authority Police Department was specifically charged with 27 counts of possessing obscene material with a minor, and 13 counts of producing, distributing or financing child pornography.
The officer is facing charges from incidents dating back to 12 months.
Details are not yet available, but the Port Authority issued this statement on Thursday:
“The Port of Virginia has been advised by the Virginia Beach Police Department that a Virginia Port Authority Police officer was arrested on Feb. 14, 2018. At this time, the port has placed the officer on unpaid administrative leave and is conducting an internal investigation. The Virginia Port Authority Police Department will cooperate with the Virginia Beach Police Department’s ongoing investigation.”
Princeton is currently being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
His trial is set for April 12.
