LIONEL PODCAST: The Insane Confederate Flag Debate Is a Diversion for Those Too Stupid to Know History

United Daughters of the Confederacy
How can this be? This woman from the United daughters of the Confederacy?! This can’t be. Hasn’t she been watching the news and CNN in particular? And what about Civil war reenactments and those who collect memorabilia and historical relics? How do you even address those killed. Civil War deaths it is now estimated could range from 617,877 to 851,066, and he settles on an estimate of 750,000 dead. How do you address honoring the dead – if you do at all – who fought for a flag that revisionists now want, in effect, banned. Is this woman mourning the death of slavery? As the usual suspects and autodidact idiots who wouldn’t know Appomattox from a hole in the ground and they simply don’t care. They’re too busy enjoying the warm glow of manufactured issues to waste any discussion of vexillology.
Robert Edward Lee commandied the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia in the American Civil War from 1862 until his surrender in 1865. You must have heard of it. It was in all the papers.
A Savannah, Georgia, woman is working to break down barriers and stereotypes by joining the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Georgia Benton is now the first African-American in the state to become a member.
Georgia on my mind. Will the UDC be forced to shutter as the revisionists gain temporary power? Does this woman have any idea of what she’s honoring by joining? “There are thousands of African-Americans who participated in the Civil War.  Not only on the Union side, but on the Confederate side,” Benton said. Many people do not realize African-Americans participated on both sides of the Civil War. They served the Confederacy in various ways, including in battle. Now this Savannah native wants to make sure people like her great-grandfather are not forgotten. Wow. Simply . . . wow.
