Kurdish forces said on Sunday that he and others ignored an order to stay in their car.These were special forces soldiers- highly trainedI do not believe they showed up at the front line "unannounced" as the Kurds are claimingEveryone has communication devices! The excuse is the Canadian forces soldier spoke Arabic- The Kurds speak Arabic, they also speak English, having been involved with NATO Forces for decades! So there is not really an issue of miscommunication, as is being presented.What really happened here, I cannot say, but the official narrative does not make sense.
A Canadian special forces soldier was killed in a "friendly fire incident" after he and others ignored an order to stay in their car and showed up to the front line unannounced, a spokesman for Iraq's Kurdish forces said Sunday.The death Friday of Sgt. Andrew Joseph Doiron marked Canada's first casualty as part of the U.S.-led coalition's war on the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria group. Canadian officials could not be immediately reached for comment Sunday on the peshmerga claim, though Canada's defence minister previously acknowledged Doiron's death came as a result of "a case of mistaken identity."
Peshmerga spokesman Halgurd Hekmat said a group of Canadian soldiers showed up unannounced Friday to the village of Bashiq, in Iraq's Nineveh province near the militant-held city of Mosul. The area had seen heavy fighting against ISIS militants the previous day. "When they returned, the peshmerga asked them to identify themselves," Hekmat told The Associated Press. "They answered in Arabic, that's when peshmerga started shooting."Hekmat added that he doesn't know why the Canadians were there. "I consider it an improper action by the Canadians and illogical," he said.Two Kurdish officials later told the AP that Doiron's body was flown to Canada early Sunday following a military ceremony at Erbil International Airport. They spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to brief journalists.
Canada's defence department on Saturday announced the death of Doiron, a soldier in the Canadian Special Operations Regiment based at Garrison Petawawa, Ont., due to "a friendly fire incident." Three other Canadian soldiers were wounded in the incident and are in stable condition, Canadian defence Minister Jason Kenney said.Canada has 69 special forces soldiers with Kurdish peshmerga fighters in what the government calls an advising and assisting role. They were sent to help train Kurdish fighters last September in a mission that was billed as noncombat with the elite troops working far behind the front lines.
The fact that Canadian special forces have been training and assisting on the front lines and directing airstrikes has stirred controversy in the country, but Kenney said the rules of engagement will remain the same.Kenney said Doiron's death had "nothing to do with combat," saying it was a case of mistaken identity on the part of Kurdish fighters at night."It was caused by a failure of identification. There will be an inquiry," Kenney said.

What were the Canadian soldiers wearing? How were they dressed that they would allegedly be mistaken for ISIS?
In Ottawa, Defence Minister Jason Kenney indicated he did not know about reports that Canadian soldiers approaching the Kurdish militia responded in Arabic when told to identify themselves.
He doesn't know about these reports because Kenney KNOWS the Kurdish Peshmerga are minimally billingual and most likely trilingual- Speaking Arabic, Turkish, English, Kurdish etc. The Peshmerga have been long integrated with the US and UKUpdated:Example of integration- 4th Military Camp opened in Erbil to train PeshmergaKurdish Peshmerga training on new weapons supplied to them by their Western allies. WASHSINGTON DC-- The fourth US military training camp has become “operational” in Erbil, Kurdistan Region to train 100 Peshmerga troops, Pentagon Press Secretary said Friday.“But the fourth one (military site), which became active today, was in Irbil, and there's about 100 Peshmerga forces right now there that are beginning -- just beginning to do some training,” Pentagon Press Secretary Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby told reporters.The US has three other military training camps, including Ein al-Asad in Anbar province, Camp Taji and Bismayah near Baghdad where American military experts train Iraqi security and Sunni tribal forces to counter the Islamic State (ISIS).
