“Joshua Blakeney has pointed out that Adrienne Arsenault of CBC reported last night that in the weeks leading up to the two so-called ‘terror’ incidents that took place this week in Quebec and Ottawa Canadian authorities had been running war games exercises depicting such attacks.
According to Arsenault,
“They [Canadian authorities] may have been surprised by the actual incidents but not by the concepts of them. Within the last month we know that the CSIS, the RCMP and the National Security Task Force … ran a scenario that’s akin to a war games exercise if you will where they actually imagined literally an attack in Quebec, followed by an attack in another city, followed by a tip that that ‘hey some foreign fighters are coming back from Syria.’ So they were imagining a worst case scenario. We’re seeing elements of that happening right now. … [Canadian authorities] may talk today in terms of being surprised but we know that this precise scenario has been keeping them up at night for awhile.”
What an amazing coincidence that Canadian intelligence ran a drill envisioning an attack first in Quebec, then another city.
…What are the chances that these mock terror drills are just a coincidence? In nearly every instance of a major terrorist occurrence in the West, it has been revealed that intelligence services were conducting war games exercises mimicking the very events that later come to pass. On the day of the London subway bombings in 2005 British authorities ran drills depicting the exact attack scenario that transpired later in the day. On 9/11 multiple US agencies were running drills simulating jet hijackings. And now we have confirmation that Canada’s intelligence services were doing the same thing.
It has also been revealed that both suspects in the two incidents this week were being monitored by both US and Canadian intelligence for some time prior to their alleged attacks.”

“…Prime Minister Stephen Harper was not 20 minutes into his speech after Parliament reopened on Thursday morning before mentioning that organizations like the Canadian Security Intelligence Service will soon enjoy expanded powers, including surveillance.
…Clayton Thomas-Muller …became a news story himself when it came to light that he was being monitored by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for his work with environmental and Indigenous groups.
The story came to light through a freedom of information request and detailed how authorities kept tabs on the activist since 2010.
Thomas-Muller warned the Conservative government will use the attack as an excuse to abuse power and monitor groups which oppose its decisions.
“The Harper government has a very clear agenda which is really aimed at further disrupting Canadian democracy for its own purposes,” he said.
A month ago, a FOI request by the Toronto Star revealed a list of demonstrations that Canadian authorities had been monitoring. Among them were environmental groups and those opposed to pipeline plans.
A warping of powers to target such groups is within the realm of possibility, said David Christopher of OpenMedia.ca, an Internet rights advocacy group.
Christopher said the government has a “horrible” track record of intrusive security measures and insisted Canada needs more safeguards to ensure authorities aren’t abusing their powers to monitor suspects.
“We saw just last year the way CSIS was caught conducting spying on totally peaceful environmental groups,” he said. “Really ridiculous that they’re using — wasting — public resources spying on completely peaceful Canadians.”

“Regardless of the identity, background and motive of the perpetrator of the attack on Canada’s parliament today, two things are clear. Islamophobia will escalate further and Canadian civil liberties will be curtailed even more.
A third aspect is the boost in militarism, a policy hotly pursued by the government of Stephen Harper.
The gunman was named by US intelligence agencies as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, 33. He was shot and killed inside the parliament building. It is interesting to note Canadian security agencies did not reveal his name or identity before the Americans did.
Zehaf-Bibeau was known to have a criminal record in Quebec and British Columbia.
He entered parliament after shooting and seriously wounding a soldier standing guard at the Canada War Memorial. The soldier later died in hospital.
At least 20 to 25 shots were fired inside the parliament building, according to several MPs that were there for caucus meetings.
…Two days earlier, another gunman, Martin Rouleau, a 25-year-old “convert” to Islam drove his car into two Canadian soldiers near Montreal killing one and wounding another.
Rouleau then escaped in his car with the police giving chase. His car crashed and the police shot and killed him.
Why he was not captured alive is also the subject of much speculation.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the federal police force, said they had Rouleau under surveillance and in July had stopped him from boarding a flight to Turkey. He was allegedly planning to enter Syria from there to join the takfiri terrorists.
Rouleau’s passport was withdrawn and the RCMP had talked to him only 10 days prior to the Montreal attack. According to the RCMP spokesperson, he had assured them he would modify his behaviour.
Rouleau was known to be a loner and given his demeanour—he was muscularly built and frequented websites that carried takfiri terrorist propaganda—he seemed to be preparing for some violent act.
The big question is whether he acted on his own or someone was manipulating him.
…Life will become increasingly more difficult for all Canadians as fear is spread because of the twin attacks. Militarism will be glorified and increased surveillance and other intrusive powers will be granted to police and other security agencies.”
