On December 23rd, the Washington Post ran a piece exploring the possible motivations behind US president Donald Trump’s decision to pause US military aid to Ukraine on July 12th last year. On September 28th 2018 and February 16th respectively, President Trump had signed into law 2 bills from Congress which approved a combined $391 million in military aid to Ukraine, including the provision of lethal weaponry.

After four and a half years of conflict Ukraine appears to be stumbling towards peace. The fighting has claimed 14 000 lives and several times that number have been injured. Some of the injured are disabled for life.

Once again, a piece of the truth rises to the surface as the result of President Trump’s determination to “drain the swamp”. Who would have thought that part of that swamp included the bolotniy (болотный) all the way across the sea in the land of Ukraine? But there it is, now getting exposed to anyone who cares to study American news with a bit of care. This interview with Victoria Toensing,  Joe DiGenova and Lou Dobbs of Fox News exposed much to the Americans – much that those of us who eschew the American press already knew.
