As the days have passed since the publication of the Trump Dossier it has become increasingly clear that we have witnessed what Donald Trump at least believes was a failed attempt to blackmail him, and it was not done by Russia.
As was easily predicted, with every passing day the tissue of nonsense which is the Trump Dossier falls apart further.
Its many factual errors made that inevitable.
Perhaps the most interesting refutation of some of the facts it claims appears in an article in The Guardian by Andrei Soldatov
Following the eruption of accusations against the US intelligence community at Donald Trump’s press conference on Wednesday, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper has met with him to try to limit the damage, and in order assure Trump of his “dismay” that the Trump Dossier was leaked and that the US intelligence community was not responsible for it.

It all began with CNN published an article entitled “Intel chiefs presented Trump with claims of Russian efforts to compromise him” which claimed that:
In the aftermath of Donald Trump’s press conference, in which he criticised the US intelligence for permitting the ‘Trump Dossier’ to get published, various attempts are being made to distance the US intelligence agencies from the ‘Trump Dossier’.
That the ‘Trump dossier’ is working to Donald Trump’s advantage, and that he is a far more skilful politician than some people suppose him to be, found confirmation from his press conference today.
The ODNI report which was published on Friday proved to be so empty of evidence that in my opinion it did more long term harm to the reputation of the US intelligence community than it did to Donald Trump’s legitimacy, or to his policy of detente with Russia.
That the so-called “dossier” on Donald Trump, which Buzzfeed has published in full, is largely the inventions of a single individual is easily established by reading its contents.
