For the most part, the public is fairly unaware of just how fabricated the political images they see on TV really are.
Like the Pony Express roaring out of a cloud of dust, the GOP candidates came last week, promising to return the U.S. to the 1880s.
In this Great March Back to the Past, there are only a few things you need to know about the GOP candidates as they change positions, jockey for advantage and pontificate endlessly to promote guns, to cut taxes for the rich, to hate for gays and immigrants, and to end government regulations and programs.
Going through his stand-up routine in New Hampshire Friday, Herr Trumpf asserted that "Ted Cruz may not be a U.S. citizen... Ted Cruz is an anchor baby in Canada." Bromance is o-v-e-r. My favorite line this week was Herr Trumpf responding to Cruz's mano-a-mano debate challenge by agreeing to do it-- as soon as Cruz proves he's eligible to run for president. And it isn't just Herr jumping on the mortally wounded Cruz.
Tim Murphy and David Corn penned an article for Mother Jones that explains why people who know him and work with him think of him as a "pompous asshole or, worse yet, a backpfeifengesicht-- a German word that indicates someone has a face that needs to be pounded into hamburger. You don't have to take Trumpf's worthless word that no one like Ted Cruz.

Friday night I went down to CBS to watch Alan Grayson on Bill Maher's HBO Show, Real Time. Maher asked Grayson about the law suit he's promised to bring if Cruz wins the Republicasn nomination and Grayson, one of Congress' most astute legal minds, explained it in detail. Unfortunately a crazy right-wing, foul-mouthed, helmet-head backer of Cruz, Liz-something-or-other, kept interrupting and refused to pay attention to the facts of the matter beyond her own limited and insular experiences.
Friday, Hillary was busy driving up her own already unfavorable ratings by joining the most vicious surrogates and staffers on her team disseminating twisted lies about Bernie. Democrats hate negative campaigning against other Democrats. Even Republicans are growing restless-- at least in Iowa and New Hampshire-- with the tens of millions of dollars in negative ads they can't escape from. TV, radio, internet... the Republican candidates are tearing each other apart.
