Ron Paul has been a fierce critic of Donald Trump’s illegal missile attack on Syria as well as Trump’s bellicose rhetoric on North Korea.
Dr. Paul however, maintains an independent stance, judging politicians on issue by issue basis. He has recently offered words of praise for Donald Trump after his positive meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Last month, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had a private meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. There were no photos of the event as it was a private meeting in every sense of the word. No one said anything at the time about this being unusual. People have private meetings all the time, whether it be a local businessman and his accountant or leaders of world powers.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has meet privately with Donald Trump in Washington DC. After the meeting, Lavrov gave a public press conference at the Russian Embassy in Washington.
The meeting seemed to take a positive tone. No re-set buttons or other gimmicks were on the table, just serious talk on major international issues like Syria, North Korea, Afghanistan and the Kiev/Donbass conflict.
Lavrov praised the attitude of the Trump administration which he contrasted sharply with that of the Obama White House. Lavrov described the changes in the following way,

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, delivering his first address to the staff of the State Department, has set out a vision of US foreign policy which if different would be radically different from anything seen over the last few decades.
The US State Department has confirmed that Sergey Lavrov and Rex Tillerson will hold meetings in Washington D.C. between the 9th and 11th of May.
Talks will cover a wide range of issues but primarily will involve Syria.
This comes after US Defence Secretary James ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis said that, “the devil is in the details”, when asked about his opinion on the safe zones established last week by the Astana Group which includes Russia, Iran and Turkey.
The Syrian government and the United Nations both support the Memorandum.
Russia’s Foreign Ministery Sergey Lavrov has suggested that Donald Trump’s private communications with Russia are far warmer than many of the public statements made by Trump officials.
Sergey Lavrov who is well known not only for his no-nonsense approach to diplomacy but also for his fun sense of humour stated,

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has given a short but meaningful statement on how and why US politicians turn to Russophobia in an attempt to shelter themselves from criticism and avoid taking responsibility for their failures.
Lavrov said,
“Sadly, the campaign of Russophobia started by Barack Obama’s administration still lingers in the US”.
He continued,
