More than any previous technological roll-out, governments and corporations are pushing extra hard to meet their timetable for the implementation of the new and completely untested 5G technology. As a result, any concerns about public safety are being treated as an afterthought, and dismissed by industry marketeers as irrational public superstition.

With each passing day, Silicon Valley’s corporate digital monopolies are realizing the story line of the recent Hollywood dystopian classic, The Circle, where a few tech firms appoint themselves as the rightful guardians of reality, by controlling speech, political discourse, and even elections.

Presently, the Trump administration is engaged in an aggressive, global trade war with China, and the adoption of telecommunications technology is a leading priority for both countries. The argument made by officials in Washington about Chinese firms installing nefarious ‘backdoors’ into their tech in order to control or spy on host countries – has become a fairly moot point in the post-Snowden world, as US high-tech firms continue to collude with surveillance moguls like the NSA and CIA. Is it any surprise that countries are rejecting American tech?

Whether you like it to or not, facial recognition is set to play an ever-growing role in people’s everyday lives. Nonetheless, the fight is now on: push-back has now begun against Silicon Valley’s global digital monopolies who seek to harvest the facial imaging data of every single user on the planet. But with seemingly endless resources and lobbying muscle, do not expect digital barons to give up on implementing a biometeric control grid.

This latest move by the US federal government smacks of desperation, as they try and coerce yet another witness into turning federal evidence in the wider effort to build its case against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
