Nancy Pelosi had to surrender the Speaker's gavel to corrupt drunken philanderer John Boehner. It took years of abysmal strategy, that went back to Rahm Emanuel's time as DCCC chair from 2005-2009 to devastate the caucus so thoroughly.

Many years ago, I was new to the big left blogger listserv and had the temerity to harshly criticize then-DCCC chairman Rahm Emanuel. The push-back was overwhelming, one progressive blogger going so far as to suggest I might be a Republican operative. The left blogosphere has matured since then and Rahm and corporate Dems like him regularly come under more thoughtful scrutiny than they did back them.

Democrats are rending their garments over Virginia state Senator Phillip Puckett's decision to throw the Senate over to the Republicans by trading his seat for a job as deputy director of the state tobacco commission and for his daughter, Martha Ketron, to get a judicial appointment. But they shouldn't be surprised.

When John Barrow first ran for Congress in 2004, friends of mine in Athens persuaded me that he had been a liberal county commissioner and had a chance to replace freshman GOP extremist Max Burns in Congress. I wrote a maxed-out check. It didn't take long before I realized I'd made an error. Towards the end of the campaign Barrow revealed what a slimy worm he is. He called me to tell me that although he personally had nothing against gay people, he had to campaign as though he did. I didn't think to ask for my money back.

Steve Israel, a pale shadow of Emanuel, likes doing that even more. And he just did it again.

Evan Jenkins was a very right-wing Democrat who followed his opportunistic instincts to switch parties recently and run against a right-wing Democrat who hasn't switched parties, Nick Rahall. Jenkins' TV spot above has a couple of lines I want to call special attention to:
