Whilst the meeting between the leaders of the US and Russian militaries – Dunford and Gerasimov – took place away from the spotlight in Baku, Azerbaijan, the world media’s attention was focused on the meeting between Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Bonn.
After weeks of delay caused by intense political and bureaucratic resistance in Washington, and with the Trump administration still not fully formed, the first high level meetings took place today between officials of the Russian government and the new Trump administration.
Russia’s newest front line fighter – the Sukhoi T50 – is to be tested with its new engine over the course of this year.
The Sukhoi T-50 has up to now been powered AL-41F1 engine with 93.1 kN (21,000 lbf) of dry thrust, 147.1 kN (33,067 lbf). It is an advanced derivative of the AL-31 engine that powers the preceding Sukhoi SU-27 family of fighters.
It is looking unlikely that US President Trump and Russian President Putin will hold a summit until the two meet at the coming G20 summit in July.
