Jon Stewart Bursts over Expired Healthcare Benefits for 9/11 Responders

Jon Stewart graced the stage of his former digs, The Daily Show, for the first time since leaving in August after serving as host of the show for 16 years. His appearance had nothing to do with him, and laughter was kept at a minimum, however. The heartbreaking episode was to shine light on the thousands of 9/11 first responders who were left high and dry after their healthcare benefits expired at the end of September.

California’s Water Crisis Forces Court to Rescind $4.6 Million Water Extraction Fee Refund

It looks as if Nestle’s illegal extraction of water from the San Bernardino National Forest in California isn’t the only water battle raging in the face of California’s water crisis. A Northern California water district legally charged a smaller competitor millions in extraction fees for drawing water from wells on its own property, a state appeals court ruled Tuesday.

Coca Cola and Pepsi Battle Over San Francisco University ‘Pouring Rights’

The Soda Giants are at war again, with Pepsi Co. and Coca Cola vying for the young and thirsty at San Francisco State University. The school has promised to drop a controversial ‘pouring rights’ contract for sugary drinks.
Two bids from the soft drink giants were being reviewed by a committee of students, faculty, and staff to decide whether Pepsi or Coca Cola (or neither) would be able to sell their drinks at the University.

Supreme Court of Philippines Confirms GM Eggplant Ban

The Philippines Supreme Court permanently halted the field testing for genetically modified eggplant, Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis), upholding the decision of the Court of Appeals (CA) which stopped the field trials for the GM plant.
Not only did the High Court deny the petition to continue cultivation of the GM eggplant, but the appeals court’s May 2013 decision was also amended.
