At least 100 police agencies have withdrawn from helping guard the Democratic National Convention in August due to an order to stop using tear gas and pepper spray during demonstrations. The removal of the non-lethal tools leave the police with no choice but to use lethal force, and they are not willing to do that.
Seatlle police chief Carmen Best has had enough. After two months of CHAZ, CHOP and nightly riots, aided and abetted by a super-liberal Mayor that only cares about using her city’s suffering to make President Trump look like the problem, the Seatlle City Council passed an ordinance forbidding officers to use “less-than-lethal” ordinance to quell extremely violent rioting that has been taking place in the city.

Heavily armed federal officers without name tags have carried out nightly attacks on antiracist demonstrations in Portland, Oregon, and snatched people off the streets into unmarked vans, sparking widespread outrage. “What we’ve seen is a continuous escalation in violence against our protesters,” says Lilith Sinclair, an Afro-Indigenous local organizer in Portland. They note the federal violence follows many years of “severe police brutality” from local police.
President Trump has enormous media transparency, far more than any president in history. Love him or hate him, his talent at using a hostile media to get his own message out is formidable and apparently quite effective. Here, the President gives a short, ten-minute interview in which he states in very clear terms that the spiraling violence is due to the weakness and complicity of Democrat leaders in major American cities.
It could be that the ongoing gratuitous murders by police across America are not mistakes but part of a program of terror and fear to control, to maintain unjust apportionment of power, resources, money, in the hands of a few. As the need rises, more people of color are cut in to positions of power to control others. But as the presidency of Barrack Obama suggests, buying off minorities with models of success is not a solution.

The move appears to be the Trump administration’s latest tactic to crush the nationwide protests that erupted in late May over the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police.
