How dreadfully depressing life has become in almost all of the Western cities! How awful and sad.
It is not that these cities are not rich; they are. Of course, things are deteriorating there, the infrastructure is crumbling and there are signs of social inequality, even misery, at every corner. But if compared to almost all other parts of the world, the wealth of the Western cities still appears to be shocking, almost grotesque.
Monumentgate is officially a new word in the political lexicon. It can be used to describe the scandal over when various world-monuments (exclusively in the west) are lit up in the colours of a country’s flag to show solidarity with that state, or otherwise, when the lights are switched off in a sign of mourning.
I personally have always felt that lighting up various monuments in the colours of a foreign flag to be a bit tacky and hypocritical, not least because such things are usually done in countries that are state sponsors of terrorism themselves.
A large explosion has occurred at the Carnival of Villepinte, located 18 kilometres outside of central Paris.
Early reports indicate that 20 are wounded including 3 people in critical condition.
The apparent cause was a wicker scarecrow that was to be burnt as part of the carnival. Foul play is not suspected at this time.

Tensions continue to boil over in Paris tonight as the Asian community come face to face with French police for a consecutive third night where reports are breaking of further violence.

Earlier today a 39 year old French citizen by the name of Ziyed Ben Belgacem, said to have a criminal history and also radicalised during a previous prison sentence, was shot by soldiers at Paris Orly Airport after it was reported he tried to seize the weapon of a young female air force officer on duty, according to Paris prosecutor Francois Molins. Three people are now in custody after today’s event.

The area around the Louvre Museum in Paris has been closed off after a French soldier opened fire on a knife wielding attacker. French police spokesperson says that the attacker cried out “Allahu Akbar.”
Police said that the attackers remarked led them to believe he had intended to carry out a terrorist attack.
Interestingly enough, there is a second person who has been detained for “suspicious behavior.”
The Middle East peace conference in Paris was the usual farce with Israel and Palestine, the subjects under discussion, both staying away. Netanyahu called the talks “useless” and Abbas was off opening an embassy in Vatican City and meeting the Pope while 70 nations gathered to take part in another peace pantomime. It ended with a pathetic declaration urging both sides to “officially restate their commitment to the two-state solution”.
Is this what the much-trumpeted 2-state solution looks like?
