Last week, we told you about a new ‘Iran Action Group’ the US established to coordinate all of its anti-Iran policies – a brainchild no doubt of fellow neocons Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Adviser John Bolton.
The mainstream media is ignoring the history of US meddling in Iran, beginning in 1953, when the CIA and the UK overthrew the Iranian government in a coup known as 'Operation Ajax', after the populist leader, Mosaddegh, nationalized its oil fields. De-classified documents reveal that the CIA bused in protesters and paid pro-Shah mobsters to stage riots. The Shah was put in power and was later overthrown in 1979. Former US President, Jimmy Carter, staged a failed coup, and 52 American citizens were taken hostage. The current protests in Iran could be leading toward another coup.
The new U.S. policy towards Iran includes regime change, according to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Tillerson was asked on Wednesday whether the United States supports regime change inside Iran. He replied in the affirmative, saying that U.S. policy is driven by relying on “elements inside of Iran” to bring about “peaceful transition of that government.”
Generally speaking, conspiracy theories form where there is a vacuum of verifiable facts associated with a controversial, usually tragic event. The concept has evolved over the years and is a part of our popular culture.
