State Dept flunkies can’t decide if they want to congratulate Iran on Oscar win

The 89th Academy Awards didn’t go off entirely without controversy.
The winner for “Best Foreign Language Film” was The Salesman, from prominent Iranian director Asghar Farhadi.
However, Farhardi decided not to attend the ceremony in protest against President Trump’s executive order preventing Iranians and citizens of 5 other Muslim-majority countries from entering the US for 6 months, Reuters reports. The order was subsequently suspended by a federal judge.

Egyptian-Born Holocaust Scholar Interrogated, Detained At Houston Airport For 10 Hours

(REPORT) — Henry Rousso, a French historian and a prominent scholar on the Holocaust, said he was detained for more than 10 hours by federal border agents at a Houston airport and was almost deported for being an “illegal” immigrant before his lawyers and an official at the school he was visiting intervened on his behalf.

(REPORT) — The United States is not about to plunder Iraq’s oil, US Defense Secretary James Mattis said as he arrived in Baghdad on Monday and sought to soothe partners rattled by remarks from President Donald Trump.

NEW YORK (REPORT) — Demonstrations were held in cities around the U.S. this weekend to support Muslim Americans and to protest President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
More than a thousand people of various faiths rallied in New York City on Sunday.
