A Michigan sheriff is defending a county jail’s decision to withhold treatment from a woman who gave birth in a jail after staff members refused to believe she was going into labor.
A lawmaker is now urging state investigators to look at the case, the same jail previously probed by federal investigators for the deaths of two inmates refused hospitalization in the past four years.

Intending to file a complaint, two open carry activists walked into a Michigan police department with one of them wearing a ski mask and strapping firearms Sunday, including an assault rifle, when they were taken down at gunpoint by cops fearing for their lives.

Before she strapped a bra around her neck and tried to hang herself from a prison shower head in Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Michigan, Janika Edmond asked prison guards for a suicide prevention vest.
But state corrections officers Kory Moore and Dianna Callahan blew her off, mocking her instead, talking amongst themselves about a bet they had placed on whether or not the inmate would ask for the vest.
Callahan had won the bet, so she started taunting Moore about how she now owed her a Subway sandwich.
