Could November Prove To Be A Wipeout For Kansas Republican Extremists?

Kansas has been nearly a one party state for a very long time. Ravaged by the Republican Party's Great Depression, Kansans voted for Franklin Roosevelt in 1932 (against Hoover) and in 1936 (against Alf Landon, their former governor). After that they went back to their innate conservatism, backing Wendell Willkie against Roosevelt in 1940 and Thomas Dewey against Roosevelt in 1944.

Can The Democrats Keep A Senate Majority?

It will probably take more than prayersThe person with the most at stake, Harry Reid, is screwing up Democratic chances to hold onto the Senate in November. He's decided to roll the dice on two unlikely conservative Democrats in deep red states, Georgia and Kentucky. Predictably, both his candidates, Michelle Nunn and Alison Lundergan Grimes, are losing.

Can Students Save The Democrats' Asses In November? Should They Bother?

The 26th Amendment to the Constitution is a simple one: "The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age." After being ratified by the 38th state legislature, North Carolina's, on July 1, 1971, it became part of the Constitution 4 days later on July 5. It has passed the Senate on March 10, 1971, 94-0, and the House March 23, 401-19.

Last Night's Primaries-- Justin Amash Kicks Boehner's Ass

I knew it was coming but I'll still amazed it came. The teabaggers couldn't even save one of their incumbents, Kerry Bentivolio in the suburbs west and northwest of Detroit in Oakland and Wayne counties. Boehner's Chamber of Commerce wing of the party recognized he was weak and they moved in for the kill. But what was so startling was that the Republicans of the district picked this monstrosity to replace him. Watch that video up top made by some Bentivolio supporters. This guy Dave Trott's going to be the worst piece of crap in the whole Congress.

Kansas-- A Laboratory For Ultra-Conservative Ideas Throughout The Entire Country-- Is A Bust

Last month, Chris Hayes repeatedly brought up a state-- Kansas-- that few Democrats ever see as a realistic election target (above). Far right extremist Sam Brownback's gubernatorial reelection is not looking like a sure thing anymore. Unless you consider being down 47-41% against your Democratic opponent, Paul Davis, "a sure thing."Kansas, the Koch-owned state, has no Democrats in federal office and was one of the only states in the country where voters gave Obama less than 40% in 2012.

What Does It Mean To Be A Blue Dog In America Today?

When John Barrow first ran for Congress in 2004, friends of mine in Athens persuaded me that he had been a liberal county commissioner and had a chance to replace freshman GOP extremist Max Burns in Congress. I wrote a maxed-out check. It didn't take long before I realized I'd made an error. Towards the end of the campaign Barrow revealed what a slimy worm he is. He called me to tell me that although he personally had nothing against gay people, he had to campaign as though he did. I didn't think to ask for my money back.

Koch Brothers' War Against America Suffers A Setback In The Supreme Court

Clean air-- clearly a Marxist plot against the esteemed Koch borthersThe NY Times called it "a major victory for the Obama administration" but the 6-2 ruling by the Supreme Court yesterday to allow the EPA to regulate the smog from coal plants that drifts across state lines from 28 Midwestern and Appalachian states to the East Coast was a victory for the Amer
