Dianne Feinstein

Hypocrisy and the Surveillance Stand-Off

Senator Dianne Feinstein’s blistering attack on the CIA’s conduct in searching the computers used by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence was deemed a remarkable salvo.  The search was engendered by the Committee’s official request for a final version of the named “Internal Panetta Review”.  The Review had been created for internal use by the CIA as a record of assessing what documents should be turned over to the Committee in connection with its investigation of the torture program.

National Security State Unravelling?

When the head of the CIA looks straight into the camera and says, "We wouldn't do that," is there anyone on the planet who doesn't interpret that to mean, "We did it; what do you think you can do about it?"Admission: I never voted for Dianne Feinstein for anything-- not for San Francisco City Council, not for mayor and not, ever, for the U.S. Senate. When Jello Biafra ran against her for mayor, I was an enthusiastic backer. She won though… she won all her races. And she's usually a voice for Establishment conservative liberalism.

What “They” Don’t Want You to Do: Seeing the Forest for the Trees
I want to talk about something that keeps coming up in the news, commentaries, NGO petitions and campaigns, and even in many of the interviews I conduct with my co-host Peter B. Collins. I want to talk about it without having to be polite and biting my tongue. Because I end up doing that a lot – in an effort to present my guests and their views – and do so without being too hard, contradictory or disrespectful. Believe me, it is hard. Sometimes I end up with blisters all over my tongue by the end of an interview.
