Silicon Valley’s most influential companies, alongside healthcare companies, US intelligence contractors and the Commons Project Foundation, recently launched the Vaccination Credential Initiative. The initiative’s ambitions reach far beyond vaccines and will have major implications for civil liberties.
The Commons Project and the World Economic Forum developed a company that created the CommonPass app that’s intended to act as a health passport that allows users to upload medical data such as a COVID-19 test result or proof of vaccination, for a health passport in order to travel or attend certain events.
As the multi-sector, global response to the coronavirus tightens the noose around civil liberties, CommonPass stands out as one of the most appalling and dangerous attacks on basic human rights in the name of public health.
