Even before the Indian establishment and the media stopped their celebrations over the BRICS declaration in Xiamen in China earlier this month condemning terrorist groups, including those based in Pakistan, hoping that this could be the game-changer moment in Islamabad-Beijing relations, the Chinese made a U-turn by openly defending their all-weather ally. In fact, China’s stand that Pakistan has made “great sacrifices” in its fight against terror is a repetition of what it had said at the BRICS summit in Goa in India in October last year.

The Head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev has stated that the BRICS may opt to create their own cryptocurrency for the purposes of global commerce.
A cryptocurrency is a digitally based means of exchange wherein the value of said currency is not determined by a central-bank. Most cryptocurrencies can be converted into state-issued currencies (Dollars, Euros, Yuan, etc.) through various foreign exchange services.

China’s One Belt–One Road trading and commerce initiative has seen China extend high speed rail and modern highway networks in its own country as well as in that of neighbouring Pakistan. In many ways the would-be highlight of this year’s BRICS summit, the inevitable handshake and discussion between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was something of a dog that did not bark.
While India withdrew its troops from Doklam/Donglang just prior to the beginning of the BRICS summit, in a move widely seen as a way to avoid embarrassment for the Indian delegation upon its visit to China, little apparent progress on settling the underlying border tensions between the Asian powers appears to have been made.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has addressed journalists at the BRICS conference in Xiamen China where he offered harsh words about the current state of political culture in the United States and warned of the dangers which are implicit in a bellicose approach to North Korea.By contrast, Vladimir Putin praised China’s hosting of the BRICS summit and spoke warmly of the atmosphere at the Xiamen based summit which closes today.
