New HIV cases in Hong Kong; China boosts fight

China has made combating HIV transmission, education and prevention an important aspect of its five-year plan [Xinhua]
Hong Kong authorities reported on Tuesday that 681 new HIV cases were reported in 2017.
The Center for Health Protection (CHP), part of the Hong Kong administration, says this is lower than the 692 cases reported in 2016.
The CHP says sexual transmission is the leading cause of HIV in new patients.

Syria death toll rises despite UNSC resolution

Less than a day after the United Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2041 calling for an immediate ceasefire in Syria, fresh fighting has killed dozens, sources have said.
The UN estimates that at least 450 civilians have been killed in nine days of fighting.

Constitutional revision could put Xi beyond two-term leadership

UNSC agrees to Syria Resolution

Although passed unanimously, the UNSC Resolution was not without its usual diatribes between Russia and the US.
The resolution, tabled by Sweden and Kuwait, passed 15-0 after three days of wrangling over wording [Xinhua]
After three days of delays over wording of the document, the United Nations Security Council on Saturday unanimously passed Resolution 2401 which called for all parties in the Syrian conflict to an immediate ceasefire which would last for at 30 consecutive days.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Friday.
Trudeau and his family have been on a week-long tour of India.

Kenya and Tanzania are moving closer to resolving a years-long trade dispute that has disrupted the ease of business across their borders.
Earlier in February both Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Tanzanian counterpart John Magufuli agreed to resolve all issues which have contributed to a trade dispute.
The two met at the East African Community (EAC) summit in Kampala, Uganda, which opens today.
