Lithuania’s actions can destabilize the situation in Belarus

Lithuania’s public figures are calling for a human chain, reminiscent of the 1989 Baltic Way that stretched from Vilnius to Tallinn, to show support to Belarusians. In Hong Kong, people also formed a human chain to protest against China’s interference (2019).
Several tens of thousands of people for a human chain to be formed from the Cathedral in central Vilnius to the Belarusian border.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and ex-President Dalia Grybauskaitė also plan to take part in the event.

Elections in Belarus: Who threatened Lukashenka?

The results of the 2020 presidential elections in Belarus have forced some Belarusians to take to streets of cities to hold protests. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya was one of the main figures who attracted the attention of voters in Belarus.
She registered as an Independent candidate on 14 July 2020. She was endorsed by the campaigns of Viktar Babaryka and Valery Tsepkalo, two prominent alternative politicians who were barred from registering, with one being arrested for corruption and the other fled to Poland.

Belarus’ Alexander Lukashenko may have won a solid victory with 80.23% of the vote, according to the election commission, but the ground on which he is standing is not as firm as it once was. The President of Belarus says a hybrid war is being waged against his nation by outside forces; opposition activists claim he has rigged this weekend’s election result.
