AL-DALI, YEMEN — At least seven civilians, including women and a child, were killed in Yemen’s southern province of Dhali on Sunday when Saudi airstrikes hit two civilian cars as they were returning along a road in the al-‘Awd district after a shopping trip for the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The region is 165 km north of the capital Sana`a, far from the confrontations between Yemeni tribes supported by the Houthis and mercenaries of the Saudi-led Coalition. Two travellers were also killed in another car driving on the same road.

YEMENI-SAUDI BORDER — As the widely unpopular Saudi-led, U.S.-backed war on Yemen continues to push the country deeper into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, Saudi Arabia has launched a vicious campaign to secure Jizan, its vulnerable southern border region with Yemen, which has been its Achilles heel in its brutal assault on its southern neighbor. Yemen’s Houthi fighters, the primary force resisting the Saud-led occupation of Yemen, frequently target the Saudi military in Jizan, sending a stark reminder to the Kingdom that its war on Yemen will inevitably be felt at home.

SANA’A, YEMEN — Laying inside an incubator with a ventilator in the critical-care unit at al Thwarah Hospital in Yemen’s capital Sana’a, two-week-old Abd al-Khaleq, and Abd al-Rahim  Akram Ali Ahmed, conjoined twins, died on Saturday as their parents, doctors, and local officials looked on helplessly. The twins died after being prevented by Saudi Arabia from leaving Yemen for life-saving medical care abroad.

SANA’A, YEMEN — A report from the Sana’a-based Yemeni government has revealed that the conflict in Yemen — sometimes called the “Forgotten War,” owing to sparse international media coverage — continues to grow more dire with each passing day.

NANGARHAR PROVINCE, AFGHANISTAN — Elite CIA-backed special forces in Afghanistan are leaving a trail of carnage in the country. As such units do not operate under the umbrella of the Department of Defense, they have been given near-impunity despite standing accused of war crimes.
Last month, the New York Times cited “senior Afghan and international officials” who said that while most strike forces in Afghanistan have been put under the purview of Afghan intelligence since 2012, two of the most “ruthless” units are “still sponsored mainly by the CIA.”

SANA’A, YEMEN —  “Saudi fighter jets were hovering above our head and launching very violent raids, the likes of which we haven’t seen since the war began three years ago,” 52-year-old Ali Abdul Salam Damesh told MintPress News. “The neighboring houses shook so much we thought an earthquake hit the area.”
Damesh was one of the escapees who was able to flee from Saudi coalition airstrikes targeting the Jedder area in Yemen’s capital of Sana’a. Three civilians were killed and five injured in the largest such attack on the city in months.

As has become the normal practice, Christmas Day’s air raid by Israel directed against targets near Damascus was largely ignored by the US media. Given the fact that Israel has bombed Syria more than two hundred times, the attack itself, which wounded three soldiers at a warehouse, was not particularly notable.

SANA’A, YEMEN — Yemeni forces reportedly targeted Apache helicopters as well as a Saudi airbase in Bir Askar in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern region of Najran on Wednesday evening. The attack was carried out with a salvo of high-precision ballistic missiles dubbed the Badr P-1. The short-range ballistic missile uses a solid-propellant, an upgrade from its previous iteration, the Badr-1.

HODEIDA, YEMEN — At least 30 civilians have been killed or injured in a barrage of ongoing airstrikes that began last Sunday, targeting a restaurant, a flour mill, and a bus station in the area of Kilo 16, in Yemen’s southwestern Hodeida province.
