Blue Dog Jim Costa Gets A Strong Progressive Opponent-- Meet Kim Williams
Whenever there's any kind of legislation put forward to help working families, you can always count on two things-- Republicans will vote NO and a certain number of reactionaries from the Republican wing of the Democratic Party will join them. In the forefront of that group of reactionaries is always Central Valley Blue Dog Jim Costa.
Mayo Pete
Last week, someone suggested I switch from using "McKinsey Pete" to "Mayo Pete." Not everyone understood the McKinsey reference and Mayo seems to capture the candidate pretty well. I took the advice and-- BOOM!-- the New York Times was out with their blockbuster report that defined McKinsey really well-- McKinsey Advised Johnson & Johnson On Increasing Opiod Sales. And it isn't just Johnson & Johnson.
Congress Needs More Members In The Squad But That Isn't The Only Way To Make A Valuable Contribution: Katie Porter
The CNN.com headline yesterday, Katie Porter isn't part of 'The Squad.' But the freshman House Democrat is stirring up trouble for Trump, was... meh. True, Katie Porter isn't part of The Squad. And true, Katie is "stirring up trouble for Trump." But... there's a lot more to it. Each member of The Squad can boast a ProgressivePunch crucial vote record of "A"-- three of them, perfect 100% scores, in fact. Katie's ProgressivePunch crucial vote score isn't as robust.
Alex Morse Is In! Pelosi Crony Richard Neal Gets A Primary Opponent
Alex Morse released this announcement video this morning. He's the 30 year old mayor of Holyoke, Massachusetts, who originally won that office when he was 22 and beat an establishment politician who was very much like current MA-01 Congressman Richard Neal. "There's an urgency to this moment in Massachusetts’ First District and our country, and that urgency is not matched by our current representative in Congress. We need new leadership that understands that we can no longer settle for small, incremental, and compromising progress. We need to be on offense.
Conservative Dems Join Republicans To Take Out Katie Hill
Katie Hill-- a target for right-wing Republicans AND right-wing DemocratsWhen I met Katie Hill for the first time-- a month or so before she officially decided to run for the seat occupied by generally unpopular GOP incumbent-- I was really excited. She said all the right things. Problem, of course, is that everybody has his or her own definition of what "progressive" means. Even Pelosi claims to be a progressive.
He’s Not The Worst Democrat-- Guest Post By Albert Lee
He’s not the worst Democrat. Why are you running against Earl? I get that question a lot. Yes, he is not the worst, but why settle for mediocrity? Also, I am not running against Earl, I am running to represent the People of the Third District of Oregon to the United States Congress.Let me break it down for you. First of all, I am running for very selfish reasons.
Finally! A Live Candidate In Ohio: Morgan Harper
On Tuesday, Rachel Cohen and Ryan Grim did a fantastic piece, How Morgan Harper's Ohio Primary Challenge Explains The House Democratic Meltdown. It's an important read and I suggest it heartily. But what I want to talk about today is that race-- between Harper and incumbent Joyce Beatty in Columbus, Ohio.
